चौखट पर एक जानवर है
इंसानियत की निशानी.

Mumbai city abounds with stray street animals. These animals, the friendly residents of the streets, require little more than attention and sustenance. Despite being loyal and hardworking companions, adoption proves to be a challenging endeavour for these street animals, particularly the Indies. These community creatures survive on the whims of their locality. While some receive nourishment and care, others endure immense suffering, particularly during thunderstorms in the monsoons, scorching summers, chilly winters, and firecracker-filled occasions. Our once beautiful festivals, where we sang melodious tunes of bhajans in reverence to nature are replaced by the deafening blasts of firecrackers, transforming these once beautiful occasions into harrowing experiences. Instead of spreading joy, they instil fear and distress among not only the elderly and ailing but also the innocent animals and birds.

In this endeavour, we implore expansive establishments such as corporate parks, cooperative societies and colleges to open their doors to the street animals in their vicinity. If they were to adopt these community animals, they could offer students invaluable life lessons in compassion, empathy, and courage—values that will benefit them in their future endeavours. Many young individuals employed in the corporate realm encounter mental health difficulties as a result of work-related stress, but they have experienced remarkable personal growth thanks to the therapeutic influence of unconditional love from an animal.

If you were to be a part of the Open Door Project, we could if required, cover costs for necessary vaccinations, sterilisations, grooming and medical treatments. All we ask from you is to instruct your watchmen to keep the animal within the premises. By adopting them and embracing them into your community, we can provide them with a sense of safety. While many street animals may not find traditional homes, they can still gain access to secure private spaces if humans create a small place for them.  If every institution, building, hotel, office, college and shop were to adopt community animals, our world would become a safer and happier place. Having an animal at your doorstep demonstrates your humanity, and becomes a source of pride. We urge you to read Pari's story on our blog, "What Makes Us Human." It serves as a perfect example of how a community united to save a distressed animal. Let us recognise our interconnectedness with nature and strive to live in harmony, preserving its beauty and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
